Closing the GAAP - MIT Center for Real Estate

Closing the GAAP

To further the Center for Real Estate’s mission to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the real estate industry, the Center for Real Estate hosts the Graduate Application Assistance Program (GAAP), called Closing the GAAP.  This program will begin on September 15th after the online application opens.

What is Closing the GAAP?

Closing the GAAP is a volunteer-based, student-run program that provides assistance to applicants from communities historically underrepresented in higher education and the real estate industry. Eligible participants include individuals who: identify with underrepresented racial or ethnic groups; individuals who identify with an underrepresented gender or orientation; first-generation students; individuals managing a disability; US Veterans; single parents; individuals with DACA status; or individuals who may have experienced a significant challenge in their path to graduate school.

Participating Applicants are paired with graduate students who can provide feedback on an application material of your choosing (Resume/CV; Statement of Objectives; or Portfolio/Work Sample) to help create a stronger application. Participating applicants will be able to receive feedback twice from their student reviewer regarding the application material of their choice

How to Apply

Closing the GAAP will begin accepting applications Sept. 15, 2024 through November 15, 2024, in order to provide assistance before January 15, 2025 (MSRED Application Deadline).

Note: Although we strive to give you our best guidance from the perspective of current students, participation will not affect how your application is reviewed by the admissions committee and is not a guarantee of admission.

The information you provide as part of your application to the Closing the GAAP Program will not be shared with the admissions committee or any official MIT entity and will be de-identified in any reports to MIT administration.
