Standardized Tests
GRE/GMAT
Applicants to the MSRED program must submit either GRE General test or GMAT results as part of their application. There are no waivers for this exam. Applicants should plan to take the exam early enough to ensure scores are delivered to MIT by the application deadline.
Applications without GRE or GMAT scores will not be reviewed.
While there is no minimum score, the average scores from successful applicants have been in the following ranges:
- GMAT 680-720
- GRE 155-160
English Language Proficiency Exam
If English is not your native language (regardless of your educational background) you must either submit either TOEFL iBT or IELTS test scores or apply for an English Language Test Waiver (due by 12/15 of the application year)
Note: MIT Graduate Admissions does not accept TOEFL MyBest, TOEFL Essentials, or TOEFL ITP scores. Only the TOEFL iBT is accepted for admission.
Minimum Scores

IELTS 7.5
- To Apply for an English Language Testing Waiver
- Due 12/15 of application year
- Via Slate, submit a clear outline of your history of English language experience, both academic and professional.
- Provide two writing samples of your own work, written in the past two years, that showcase your English language capabilities.
- They must both be single-author, and at least four pages.
- The documents may be professional or academic in nature but must relate to the real estate industry.
- OPTIONAL: You may also include an old (older than two years) TOEFL Score as part of your waiver request package.
- Applicants will be informed as soon as possible if their waiver application is approved.
