Congratulations to Professor Siqi Zheng for being the recipient of this year’s Frank E. Perkins Award for Excellence in Graduate Advising for the MIT School of Architecture and Planning. This award is given each year to a professor from each school who has served as an excellent advisor and mentor for graduate students.
Prof. Zheng says the students have helped her with her teaching craft, “At first I felt so nervous and unconfident in teaching this course in our MSRED program. I pushed myself to understand the industry practice in the US, and to make friends with and learn from industry leaders, particularly our own CRE lecturers and MSRED alumni”. Prof. Zheng has enjoyed every session in the classroom where students’ active participation and insightful discussion stimulate her own learning and she gains invaluable friendships.
In addition, Prof. Zheng thanks post-docs and graduate student RAs in her research groups in helping her pursue a “learning by doing” approach, “They have helped me so much in keeping a fresh and curious mind, to explore new and exciting research questions.” Prof. Zheng shares that working together with them on from meetings to papers is a “joyful time for me”.
Lecturer Zhengzhen Tan, co-instructor for the MSRED Sustainable Real Estate course, says of Prof. Zheng, “She never stops learning, teaching and researching– holding highest standard of achieving excellence. A true role model of an educator and leader!”
Prof. Zheng’s dedication to advising and mentoring graduate students is phenomenal. The Center congratulates her on this distinguished award.
