Jose R. Viquez Brenes joins MIT with extensive experience in commercial real estate development, asset management, and hospitality consulting. Originally from San Jose, Costa Rica, Jose holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Boston College and an MBA from the University of Oxford.
In his early career, Jose made significant contributions to Grupo America, the holding company for a real estate developer (AFZ), a construction company (AMCO), and a hospitality development (Hacienda Barvak). At AFZ, he optimized leasing performance for a 2.1 million square foot corporate real estate portfolio and negotiated lease agreements with major tech companies. He also restructured long-term debt and raised capital, showcasing his expertise in asset management and financial analysis. Additionally, Jose led the acquisition and master planning of a 250-hectare property for Hacienda Barvak, a sustainable mountain wellness resort.
Before joining MIT, Jose was part of WATG’s Advisory team in London, where he provided strategic consulting for hospitality master-planned communities in the EMEA region. His role included delivering market research reports, development recommendations, and financial feasibility analyses.
At MIT, Jose aims to deepen his understanding of advanced real estate investment strategies and development processes. He is particularly passionate about contributing to the decarbonization of real assets and the creation of next-generation green buildings.
Jose has also served as a board member of the Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Costa Rican Free Trade Zones, promoting public policies to enhance competitiveness, attract foreign investment, and drive economic development.
